Karel Procházka (born 8.8.1943)
He devoted himself to violin since the age of 7; later he studied viola at the Brno Conservatory and continued his studies with Prof. Jiří Kratochvíl, a member of the Janacek Quartet. Since 1963 he has been a member of the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra, and since 1974 he has been its first violist. He played for eleven years with the Czech Chamber Soloists Orchestra and for eighteen years as a member of Brno String Quartet. With this quartet he took part in more then 900 concerts, 60 foreign tours, prepared radio and TV recordings, recorded LP records at home as well as abroad. He worked for five years at the Brno Conservatory specializing in playing the viola and since 1990 he has been teaching at Janacek Academy of Music Arts viola and chamber music. In 1998 he founded the chamber orchestra Czech Virtuosi of which he has been an artistic leader.
